Regulation 53 on the obligation to retain identification data

The regulation concerns communications services that telecoms operators provide. The regulation describes identification and other data that telecoms operators shall retain for authorities. The regulation does not impose telecoms operators an obligation to retain any new data.

The purpose is to extend the current storage period of the data operators have retained for own use. For their own use, telecoms operators may retain data that is listed in the regulation, e.g. in customer management systems, network management systems as well as data concerning the use (for instance in billing information).
