Half of fixed broadband subscriptions had data rate of at least 10 Mbit/s - high rate is a bridge to new services
The development of fixed broadband subscription volumes has been moderate in the past years. However, the quality of connections - measured by nominal data transfer speed - has improved considerably. Only one subscription out of ten provided a speed of at least 10 Mbit/s broadband speed in mid-2009. In three years, their share had grown to cover half of all fixed broadband subscriptions. In practice, a broadband connection providing such a data transfer speed enables the reception of television broadcasts, for example.
The popularity of mobile data transfer services grew in a stable manner during the first half of 2012. The number of mobile data transfer subscriptions with monthly payments totaled 4.1 million at the end of June 2012. Especially the number of subscriptions based on monthly payments with limited usage grew strongly. In addition, mobile broadband subscriptions with unlimited usage also retained their popularity.
