Internet increasingly popular in watching audiovisual content

According to their own estimates, Finns watched less live television during the past year, although watching TV programmes at the time they were broadcast was still the most common way of watching television. The decrease in watching TV at the time of broadcast was felt especially by 15-to-19-year-old respondents but also by those between the ages of 20 and 44.

Watching television programmes and videos on the internet has gained popularity particularly among young people. Based on their own estimate, young respondents were also more likely than other groups to view more content online during the year following the study.

The most common obstacles to watching audiovisual content on the internet were the difficulty of searching for programmes, a screen that made watching difficult, poor sound quality or the inconvenient location of the computer. Compared to the average, young respondents were particularly bothered by slow broadband speeds.
