Processing of personal data

The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) has a number of statutory obligations which may involve the processing of personal data.

FICORA uses personal data to meet these statutory obligations. When processing personal data, FICORA complies with the applicable data protection legislation. FICORA's Data Protection Policy contains the principles and aims of the Authority regarding the processing of personal data and the implementation of data protection in accordance with the GDPR.

FICORA will not use or disclose personal information for purposes of direct marketing, market research or opinion polls. For customer satisfaction surveys, FICORA asks for the data subject’s consent. Every registrant has the right of access to data concerning them and the right to demand the rectification of erroneous data. FICORA processes personal data based on its statutory obligations for a variety of purposes, depending on the FICORA services used. Below you will find descriptions of registers related to FICORA’s statutory obligations:

  • The information management system of the FICORA Registry, which contains information on all the matters which must be officially recorded by the Authority;
  • FICORA’s customer service register, into which all contacts made by telephone or email are recorded;
  • The radio licence, examination and certificate processing system of Spectrum Management, which includes the FICORA frequency database;
  • The .fi domain name register, which contains information on .fi domain names registered/entered into the register. The search engine for retrieving public information from the register can be found on the FICORA website . In addition, all .fi registrars that have registered with FICORA can be found on the FICORA website.
  • The postal verification system, which contains information on undeliverable postal items processed by FICORA;
  • The numbering system, which contains information on granted numbers, identifiers and codes, such as national subscriber numbers and SMS service numbers;
  • The Verkkotieto.fi service, which contains information on network construction plans and promotes joint construction projects. - The website also includes information on network operators operating in a given area. The service contains information communications, electric, district heating, gas, water supply and transport networks;
  • The market surveillance register, which contains information on conformity assessment of radio equipment sold in Finland and on results and surveillance decisions concerning individual inspections of radio equipment.
