Call barring categories

The aim of barring categories is to prevent problems arising from the provision and use of telecommunications services. FICORA specifies the barring categories used in telecommunications.

A telephone user can bar calls and text messages to the premium rate services of his or her choice. It is also possible to bar international calls. Telecoms operators may provide other barring options, too.

The holder of a subscription can activate bars on calls and text messages free of charge. However, operators may charge a fee for terminating the barring services.

The classification of services and the barring categories applied to telecommunications are defined in FICORA's Regulation 35 on barring categories in telecommunications and the related explanatory notes MPS 35.
