Agreement on the use of 5G frequencies between Finland and Sweden in the border area - Important step towards 5G

Published 09.04.2018

FICORA and the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority PTS have agreed on the use of 5G frequencies (3400 - 3800 MHz) in the border area of the two countries.

The agreement contains technical conditions for building networks, allowing the operators to build comprehensive new wireless broadband networks also in the border area.

The agreement is a part of the preparation for enabling the use of 5G frequencies as from 1 January 2019.

Corresponding negotiations have also begun with the other neighbouring countries. The aim of the negotiations is to agree on the use of frequencies so that they are used in as flexible and interference-free manner as possible in the border areas.
