FICORA invites applications for programming licences for radio broadcasting

Published 17.08.2017

New programming licences for long-term radio broadcasting subject to a licence may be applied for with FICORA until 25 September 2017. Licences will be granted for around 30 regions throughout Finland.

Programming licences will be granted for frequencies that remain available after previous application rounds and for new frequencies coordinated on the basis of expressed needs. Programming licences may be applied for either new radio operations or to complete the coverage of existing radio stations. The licences are valid until the end of 2019.

Free frequencies allocated for analogue FM radio broadcasting are listed in FICORA Regulation 70 G (in Finnish). In this round, programming licences available for application include 45 FM frequencies and three AM frequencies.

The deadline for applications is Monday, 25 September 2017 at 4.15 pm.

FICORA grants the licences if there are sufficient frequencies. However, if there are no sufficient frequencies for all applicants or the decision would have a significant effect on the general development of the communications market, the decisions on programming licences are transferred to the Government. Both authorities will grant the programming licences at the same time.
