The fi-domain name system will be unavailable from 2 September 2016 at 16.15 − the new domain name system intended only for registrars will be opened on 5 September 2016 at 10.00.

Published 31.08.2016

The fi-domain name system and all related user IDs will cease to exist on Friday, 2 September at 16.15 for the whole weekend. Fi-domain names will adopt on Monday, 5 September 2016 the so called registry-registrar model where all services related to domain names are in future acquired only from an own domain name registrar. The validity period of the existing domain names will continue normally in spite of the new model.

This means that domain names cannot be modified between Friday, 2 September 2016 at 16.15 and Monday, 5 September 2016 at 10.00. The new domain name system intended only for registrars will be opened on Monday, 5 September 2016 at 10.00.

Registrars will provide all the services related to fi-domain names

After the 5 September 2016, fi-domain names and all related services will be acquired from your own registrar. The first point of contact in all issues related to fi-domain names is always your own domain name registrar, not FICORA. FICORA continues to be responsible for the technical operation of fi-domain names and will supervise and guarantee that registrars offering fi-domain name services provide the highest quality of service.

Everyone can apply for domain names

In the new model, everyone can apply for combinations of first and last names (firstnamelastname.fi). At the same time the person's right for the combination of his/her own name will cease to exist. The combinations of first and last name for a domain name can freely be applied for.
