No major changes in the use of telecommunications services over the first half of 2016
From January to June 2016, the volume of data transferred in the mobile network increased by 75 per cent compared to the same period last year. The percentage increase has slowed down slightly but in terms of volume, the increase is greater than before. During the examined period, outgoing mobile call minutes decreased slightly and the number of sent text messages fell by 10 per cent compared to 2015.
When adding together both fixed and mobile network connections, there were around 3.8 million broadband connections used only for data transfer in Finland at the end of June 2016. When counting in mobile connections used for voice and messaging services and M2M connections, there were no fewer than 10.9 million subscriptions with data transfer services in Finland.
At the end of June 2016, there were fewer than 100,000 subscriptions using only optical fibre in Finland, even though the growth rate was 15 per cent. However, this does not represent how much Finns are using fast broadband connections delivered via optical fibre. When including solutions where the optical fibre cable reaches the building, the number of subscriptions is around 650,000. Furthermore, a major part of broadband connections in the cable TV network is also delivered close to the customer via an optical fibre cable.
