FICORA supervises use of frequencies at IBU World Championships and Lahti Ski Games

Published 03.03.2015

FICORA ensures functioning frequencies at IBU World Championships Biathlon 2015 in Kontiolahti between 4 and 15 March, as well as in the traditional Lahti Ski Games between 6 and 8 March 2015. FICORA participates in the preliminary arrangements for both of these events. In addition, FICORA will be at the venue sites monitoring the use of frequencies in order to guarantee disturbance-free connections for event organisers, teams and the media.

FICORA plans in advance the frequencies used during the games and grants radio licences for the devices to be used. FICORA's specialists inspect all the radio devices that are brought into the venue site and related radio licences in order to ensure that the devices function in the right frequencies. During the events, the use of frequencies is monitored so that possible interferences can be removed quickly.

The number of frequency users is high at international sports events. Sports teams use radio telephones for their internal communications, whereas the media use frequencies for e.g. producing programmes and transmitting TV picture. FICORA steers and supervises the use of these frequencies so that the connections for all users would function as well as possible. Thus, it is ensured that the event goes smoothly and viewers at home can enjoy the broadcast.
