Spectrum auction to resume today at 10 a.m.

The 800 MHz spectrum auction, which was interrupted five weeks ago, will be resumed on Thursday 24 October. The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) interrupted the auction on 19 September 2013 due to an imperative technical reason.

During the technical maintenance, necessary changes and updates have been made to the auction system. The system was maintained in order for the supplier to guarantee the functionality, reliability and maintenance of the system in the future stages of the auction that has now lasted for more than eight months.

The auction will be resumed today in accordance with the rules in FICORA's original regulation on the auction of the frequency band. On the basis of the consultation on changing the regulation, FICORA regarded that it has no grounds to change the rule that concerns the switching of bids according to FICORA's proposal.

On 14 October, FICORA has sent a new request for comments on changing FICORA's spectrum auction regulation. According to the proposal, FICORA would be in a position to cancel the auction, if there were extremely weighty reasons to assume that the auction did not end within a reasonable time. The consultation ends on 4 November.
