ICANN selects FICORA to its Nominating Committee

Published 10.10.2013

Mr Juhani Juselius, Head of the Products and Services group at the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA), has been selected to the Nominating Committee (NomCom) of ICANN for 2014. ICANN or Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers administers internet addresses. NomCom appoints members to the Board of Directors of ICANN, for example.

Both FICORA and Finland are deeply honoured by Juselius' nomination, as it is an internationally valued position of trust. Due to the nature of the Nominating Committee, the persons selected to it typically have a long experience of the internet administration and enjoy the trust of the internet community. In the forthcoming season, the committee will consist of a total of 21 persons including two Finns. In addition to Juselius, the committee will be attended by Mr Yrjö Länsipuro, who chaired the committee in the previous season.

ICANN is a non-profit organization who is responsible for, among other things, the administration and coordination of top-level domains and the allocation of IP addresses to organisations that allocate them further on. ICANN is an American company by organisation structure, but in practice, it is an international public benefit corporation for the private sector, civic society and states with regard to internet matters. NomCom is an independent committee that selects actors to the key positions of trust within ICANN.

FICORA is an active member of ICANN through ccNSO (Country Code Names Supporting Organisation). Juselius was selected to the Nominating Committee as a ccNSO representative.
