New coordination group tackles disturbances
Published 20.06.2013FICORA has established a coordination group that tackles disturbances. The objective of the group is to improve the operative cooperation between authorities and key players in the telecoms and electricity sectors in the event of communications network disruptions. Typically, the disturbances are related to extreme weather conditions such as thunder or winter storms that have damaged the electric network whose faults have again disturbed communications networks.
The group members consist of key Finnish telecoms operators, electric power supply carriers and telecoms and electric network contractors. The authorities are represented by the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the National Emergency Supply Agency, Ministry of the Interior's Department for Rescue Services, the Emergency Response Centre and the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA). The group will begin its work in full by autumn. However, the network based on group members may be contacted even before autumn in the event of eventual disturbances.
This autumn, FICORA will place a related map service on its website. The service reports any disruptions in mobile and mass communications networks, and in broadband connections.
