FICORA's single largest broadband state aid for the arctic Utsjoki municipality

Published 21.12.2012
FICORA has issued the single largest state aid to date within the Broadband for Everyone project intended for sparsely populated areas. The state aid exceeding 1.5 million euros was granted to the broadband project in the municipality of Utsjoki in the northernmost regions of Finland on 20 December 2012.

The fibre network extending to 270 kilometres in length in Utsjoki was built by TeliaSonera Finland Oyj, and the total budget of the project was about 3.6 million euros.

FICORA has thus granted nearly 7 million euros for broadband projects in sparsely populated areas. In addition, municipalities have financed the projects with a share of either 8% or 33% of the total budget. FICORA has issued a total of 25 state aid decisions.

In addition, FICORA has issued 25 opinions in favour of granting the aid to broadband projects supported by regional EDTE's.
