Communications networks less affected by power failure – local failures still occur
Published 02.01.2012Power cuts due to last week's storms continue to cause local disturbance to mobile phone and other telecommunications connections. However, there has been much improvement during the weekend.
The areas most affected by the disturbances are Varsinais-Suomi, Satakunta, Pirkanmaa, Southern Häme, Western Uusimaa and Uusimaa.
The functionality of emergency traffic has further improved. There still are minor, local shadow areas in the networks of telecom operators. In these areas, emergency traffic suffers from disturbance or is completely hindered. The goal is to ensure the operation of emergency traffic by means of reserve power supply.
Telecom operators repair the faults as the repair work of the electricity supply network progresses. FICORA continues to follow the situation. Telecom operators, too, place updated information on the disturbance to their networks on their websites (in Finnish):
