Radio amateur examinations
Radio amateur examinations required for the use of a radio station
Only a holder of an amateur radio certificate can operate an amateur radio station independently and apply for an amateur radio station licence and an own radio amateur call sign. FICORA issues the radio amateur certificate after successfully passed examination.
The radio amateur examination is based on modules. Each examination module is an independent examination. Each module may be made separately or it is also possible to pass all the necessary modules at the same time. The radio amateur examination modules do not expire.
Elementary and general class certificates
An application form that is filled in during the examination is used in applying for the certificate after successfully passed examination.
- To obtain an elementary class certificate the applicant has to pass modules K and T1.
- To obtain a general class (HAREC) certificate the applicant has to pass modules K and T2.
The amateur certificates do not have an expiry date.
Examiners
The examinations are held by the Finnish Radio Amateur League (SRAL) and appointed FICORA officials.
SRAL ry provides information on the examiners in the league and the price of the examination.
The charge for a radio amateur examination held by FICORA is €26.57 for each section of the examination.
