Functionality of e-mail

E-mail services

Service providers offer e-mail services either for a fee or free-of-charge, or as value-added services included in internet services. In the event of disturbance, contact your service provider directly.

Consumers often use free e-mail services or the ones included in internet access services. It is mostly business customers who use e-mail services subject to a fee. In addition, customers can often buy additional services for their e-mail service, such as additional disk space or improved e-mail filtering.

In conjunction of the internet service, e-mail service is accessible by the customer until the end of the subscription agreement only. After the termination of the subscription agreement, the e-mail service will be removed after a period of termination notice.

Internet access service providers are not obliged to maintain or store the information of the e-mail account after the customer relationship has ended. If you wish to keep the messages, it is worthwhile to save the important e-mail messages on you own computer if the subscription agreement is coming to an end.

Ensuring uninterrupted e-mail services

FICORA steers and monitors the technical operations of Finnish e-mail service providers' e-mail services. To ensure the functionality of the services, FICORA has issued a regulation on the functionality of e-mail services and a related application recommendation.

E-mail service operators must notify FICORA of significant faults and disruptions in their e-mail services.

Contact your e-mail service provider in the first place, when you detect a fault or disturbance in the e-mail service or you have other problems related to the use of the service.
