Monitoring of the internet

Same laws apply on the internet as elsewhere

Nobody actually monitors the content of the internet, but the same laws apply on the internet as elsewhere. FICORA resolves information security incidents which occur on the internet and notifies of information security issues. FICORA also monitors the technical functionality of communications networks and services.

Many everyday things become possible and easy to take care of on the internet. The internet is also a place for frauds, bullies and troublemakers who not only cause upset, but also economic damage.

It is impossible for anyone to handle the ever-increasing amount of content on the internet. Internet content is often monitored after publication and is case-specific. Same applies to the assessment of the lawfulness of content. The Police can be notified of doubtful material on the internet via Net Tip service . It is also possible to report of an offence regarding events on the internet.

FICORA monitors the technical functionality of communications networks

FICORA monitors the technical functionality of communications networks and services and has issued regulations and recommendations on these for both normal and exceptional circumstances.

Telecom operators must notify FICORA of significant faults and disruptions in their communications networks and services. Also, FICORA must be notified of significant information security incidents.

If you come across a fault or disturbance or problems in your internet service, please contact the telecom operator responsible for the service first. Service providers are responsible for detecting the fault and starting repair work.

FICORA's CERT-FI team focuses on information security

The objective of FICORA's CERT-FI team is to promote that the internet and services therein are safe and interference-free. The team also ensures functions that are vital to society.
The CERT-FI team is responsible for:

  • collecting information on information security incidents and threats, as well as of significant faults and disturbances;
  • resolving information security incidents, threats, faults and disturbances; and
  • publicizing information security matters.

In addition, CERT-FI monitors, as a communications authority, the protection of privacy in telecommunications and information security of telecommunications.
